History of

Southern Missionary Baptist Church

In 1960 a group of family members met at 833 South State Street to have worship service.  At this time the Church was called Morning Star Baptist Church.  Eventually, Deacon Monroe Holloway made a motion that the church be called Southern Missionary Baptist Church.  This motion was seconded by Deacon Bennett Hudson.  In March of 1960, the Reverend Willie C. Huffman became the first pastor and in 1962 the church was incorporated.  Southern Missionary Baptist Church is located at 3143 Midland Avenue  in the valley section of Syracuse New York. After 62 years of service, we still remain  pillar in the Syracuse community.

Southern Missionary Baptist Church has adopted the five principles of Kingdom Culture: unity, excellence, integrity, support and giving which guides the work of the church.  Southern Missionary Baptist is a member of the Northeastern District Baptist Association, Empire  Baptist Missionary Convention and National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc and its members are actively involved at the district, state and national level. Pastor Search Announcement

Southern Missionary Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a full time pastor, called by God, ordained, and dedicated to the ministry of Jesus Christ.  Qualified candidates must possess the biblical and spiritual qualities as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 4:2-3

1.    Cover letter that communicates why God is calling you to Southern Missionary Baptist Church and how your experiences and skills have prepared you for the call. (Times New Roman Size Font 12)

2.    Resume or Curriculum vitae including any relevant certifications (e.g. Copy of License Certificate, Copy of Ordination Certificate, Copy of Seminary Certificate, College/University Transcript(s).

3.    Website links to recent sermon, presentations, bible study or Sunday school teaching.

4.    Name, title and contact information for 4 references (e.g., clergy, personal and professional.
